Data breach may have exposed the personal, medical information of 600,000 in Michigan
According to a recent press release from Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel “It is believed the information of more than 600,000 Michiganders may have been compromised by the breach, including customers of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Health Alliance Plan, McLaren Health Care, Three Rivers Health, and North Ottawa Community Health System. Wolverine Solutions Group says it has mailed letters to all impacted individuals. According to the company website, exposed information could include names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, insurance contract information and numbers, phone numbers, and medical information. The company says it does not believe personal information was extracted.”
It appears that Wolverine Solutions Group (WSG) was the victim of a ransomware attack in which the hackers got control of the company’s records and encrypted them in an effort to extort the company. An updated notice on WSG’s website does not say how hackers gained access to Wolverine’s systems, but did say it has “migrated to a different computer system that has added protections and trained our workforce in safeguards.”
